The divorce could have implications for the ownership structure of Amazon, where Mr. Bezos is the largest shareholder with a 16.3% stake, according to the company’s latest proxy filed in April 2018. If you own only 8% of a trillion dollar company, do you fall out of the elite class?

Bezos, 54, is worth an estimated $136 billion and is the world’s richest person, according to Forbes. His home state of Washington is one of the few remaining so-called “community property” states — where marital assets shared equally — so his divorce settlement with his soon-to-be-ex, 48, promises to be one of the largest in history.

Here are the other elite-level divorce cases of record:

1. Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos2. Alec and Jocelyn Wildenstein
3. Rupert and Anna Murdoch4. Bernie and Slavica Ecclestone
5. Harold Hamm and Sue Ann Arnall6. Adnan and Soraya Khashoggi
7. Steven and Elaine Wynn8. Dmitry Rybolovlev and

While Wall Street took the Bezos split announcement in stride; investors watch to see if the divorce settlement affects Bezos’s control of Amazon. So long as the company is growing and returning profits, Jeff Bozos probably maintains investor confidence, though a settlement might put a dent in such RELENTLESS.COM side projects in the space exploration company Blue Origin | blueorigin.com.  Maybe not.

As of January 2019, the creator and genius of RELENTLESS.COMhas a mission in space that launched years ago in his youth.  You might observe that it is his second mistress.  Bezos reports that the annual budget for Blue Origin | blueorigin.com is in excess of $1B, only about 1/70 of the expected fortune he may relinquish to Mackenzie.

In numerous interviews of record (both social media and mainstream) Jeff Bezos has framed his passion for space exploration.  He may have his highest regard for this mission, maybe ranking this higher than any other love in his life: ex-wife, current mistress, even his varied other RELENTLESS.COMpursuits, of which there are many.

Melancholy of my own, compounded of many samples extracted from many objects the sundry contemplation of my travels rumination wraps me in humorous sadness ~ William Shakespeare (paraphrased)

“Why don’t people understand money can’t buy happiness …. I’d rather have happiness than all the money in the world…  ” ~ Mackenzie Bezos

Mackenzie Bezos (Mac) is the published author in the family, not Jeff. And now that she and Jeff have split, some followers may wonder if she will one day write an autobiography or a memoir about her life the last 25 years. Within the few weeks following the early January 2019 announcement of their pending divorce, Mac remains silent about her writing plans so her family and friends may not know a thing about her feelings without checking her social media entries. But it is still uncertain that her own feelings, opinions are on her TWITTER FEED, an unverified account.

One of the few places where you find real opinions for Mackenzie Tuttle Bezos is an online book review about The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon. Mac writes regarding the couple’s early life

“Jeff’s decision to leave his job and build an Internet bookstore at the time, he was thinking about what to do next; he had recently read the novel, “Remains of the Day,” by Kazuo Ishiguro, about a butler who wistfully recalls his personal and professional choices during a career in service in wartime Great Britain.”

Mackenzie then followed with numerous arguments in critique of the Brad Stone work. Here are six of her opinions summarized:

“Jeff’s decision to leave his job and build an Internet bookstore at the time, he was thinking about what to do next; he had recently read the novel, “Remains of the Day,” by Kazuo Ishiguro, about a butler who wistfully recalls his personal and professional choices during a career in service in wartime Great Britain.”

“Their divorce (the Bezos) will be as quick as an Amazon delivery,” said West Coast-based attorney Christopher Melcher, according to this report and other press accounts linked below.

Bezos Divorce Might Be Handled as ‘Quickly as An Amazon Delivery’

Affluence and influence will always define Jeff and Mackenzie, no matter where or when you read the Bezos chronicles about their future life. Now, Jeff and Mackenzie will lead separate, but always connected lives. Together, they will remain at the top of the 1% group in the world.

Although the Bezos divorce is a fait accompli, speculation abounds about asset division between the couple: Amazon, Washington Post, Blue Origin, or Bezos Expeditions, all of these or none. Lawyers and financial planners will gain lucrative compensation sorting this out. The final division of wealth between the Bezos’ will make for continuous chatter and commentary, some of which follows here.

There is mindful conflict in determining whether written rumination about the Bezos divorce is palatable, not because the story redux is elusive or sensational but because one struggles to understand it without mining psychological clues.

Granted, a certain confirmation bias is at work, the belief that the life of one Mackenzie Bezos—one half of the richest couple in the world, partner to a man who remade retail, refashioned labor norms, even capitalism itself, and upended the mega-industry that publishes books—just has to be a victim with a powerful story to share. Surely she would draw on such rich material as she scripts her next book. She is probably doing just that.

While many within and outside their world are providing social media fodder about the Bezos breakup, the couple remains mostly silent. Mackenzie the writer may have a future novel, even a biography to provide a retrospective on current events. Given his richest man in the world status, Jeff Bezos has numerous biographies, official and otherwise, but all require updates on his marital status. In a public commentary, her own Twitter page, Mackenzie offers some occasional insights into her current state of mind, like:

“Hoping to find a true partner this time around.” Mackenzie Bezos
(So reads her Twitter bio introduction)
Mackenzie Bezos (@_MackenzieBezos) | Twitter

As of January 2019, Mackenzie Bezos (the TWITTER edition) has over 4,100 Twitter followers and has given that flock plenty to read with almost 70 thousand tweets since 2015. Keep in mind that this is an unverified account, so the source is in question.

Scrolling through the @_MackenzieBezos Twitter feed, the reader may catch the way her mind is working; how she is processing developments in her life with typographical ruminating, tweets, and retweets on what she observes, what she reads and sees from the perspective of her uncommon life amid a common development she would have never expected the entire world to know.

Guess where relentless.com takes you? Maybe not where you think?

By choice of marriage, MacKenzie (Mac) became a popular* hostess at relentless.com. And given a first name that sounds like a last, destiny followed with the role of nurturing matriarch for an amazing internet domain. Identity found: history says Mac was one of the first employees of Cadabra, also known as AMAZON and she helped author the URL that survives as an active company link stored in the worldwide domain registry archives. [A] * Mac could not prevent the popularity as the co-creator of the domain and the spouse of the company founder.

Without fanfare, Mac’s first job was as a companion, driver and navigator. And so Amazon was born. Mackenzie and Jeff flew to Texas to borrow a car from his father, and then they drove to Seattle. Bezos was making revenue projections in the passenger seat the whole way, though the couple did stop to watch the sunrise at the Grand Canyon. While in transit, Jeff and Mac literally jump-started their life and book-selling fictional enterprise during transit from the USA Right Coast to the Left Coast in 1993. [B]

Burning fuel at the rate of $1.17 per gallon for some 1,700 miles, the newlyweds drove on nonrenewable energy and a passion for their enterprising dream. Read their story to learn Jeff and MacKenzie Tuttle Bezos met in 1992 when they were both employees at the New York City hedge fund D.E. Shaw. Jeff worked his way up to senior vice president at the firm while MacKenzie worked there as a research associate. Numerous  SocialCurrentSee®  accounts of their married life reveal that Jeff always said, “she is very smart!” MacKenzie the introvert; Jeff an extrovert to explain his entrepreneurial bent. [C]

Now, Mackenzie S. Bezos, 49, is an American novelist, published but not widely, even though her works sell on Amazon. In 2014, she founded the anti-bullying organization Bystander Revolution and serves as executive director of that group today. In 1993, MacKenzie married Jeff Bezos, who later became the founder and CEO of Amazon, eventually making them the richest couple in the world. They announced their intent to divorce in January 2019. [D]

Ironically, the message Mackenzie Bezos cast for the anti-bullying cause may have had a partial origin with the husband Jeff Bezos, once known as a leadership tyrant during the early Amazon days, but an iconic entrepreneur today that has learned deference and patience, possibly much from MacKenzie. Yet, the common definition of relentless may also enlighten the reason for this mission. [E]

Only in this enlightened era of ubiquitous SocialCurrentSee® can one expect such archives of rumination, whatever your source of social media. [F]

A footnote for this subject is the pervasive hyper story about family divorce for the opening quarter of 2019, the Jeff and MacKenzie (Tuttle) Bezos breakup. The upper case status of this story eventually will document a legendary account of how the couple split up something north of $140B and the fallout of that union for the world’s largest online retail enterprise, AMAZON. Reportedly, some investors in that domain worry even if the couple is not. What could they possibly worry about. [G]

As common as divorce is today (something just shy of 50% of marriages ends this way in the USA in 2019), it is not every day that a high-profile divorce story like the AMAZON founding couple breakup makes the headlines. [H]

The media attention given the Bezos misfortune (forgive the pejorative attribution) will extend for some time with internet and mainstream media giving both tawdry and telling accounts of how the couple navigates this phase of life. Their “upper case” status will ensure few details unreported while millions of other divorce situations plod along in the “lower case” realm. [I

Mackenzie Bezos is a published author and novelist but that side of her life has some curious anonymity outside elite circles. A natural introvert, she is obviously not depending upon income from her writings. Not now at least. In contrast, the Jeff Bezos story captures more attention than almost any mega-billionaire in the world today and the column inches are only rising.  Although he owns many media outlets (including the Washington Post), Jeff Bezos needs no publicity boost. In fact, President Donald Trump may rank as the most prolific promoter of the Bezos brand and you can’t gain a media profile creator more notable than that. [J]

Her 2013 work, “Traps,” is about three women, at first about as disconnected as one could imagine, and each in her own way striking, even riveting. “In very few words and only a few scenes, dialogue and secondary characters ringing true and three-dimensional, I found myself curious about each character as a person,” wrote one book reviewer on Mac’s Amazon page. [K]

Despite the recent events in the Bezos marriage, sources may speculate the title of this work was potentially prophetic. Now, the pending accounts of the Bezos divorce will mirror the stories of many other famous disunions (literature and the press are full of these).  Unreported will be millions of lower case divorce stories of the pedestrian, plebeian type, one of which is the subject of the journal to follow. ruminate (*scs)

FLIPBOARD

Rumination is the focused attention on the symptoms of one’s distress, and on its possible causes and consequences, as opposed to its solutions. Both rumination and worry are associated with anxiety and other negative emotional states; however, its measures have not been unified.

ruminate

verb ▶ ru·mi·nate | \ˈrü-mə-ˌnāt  \ruminatedruminating

  • v. To turn a matter over and over in the mind.
  • v. To chew cud.
  • v. To reflect on over and over again.

WHAT we ruminate, we  ‘chew over’” according to psychotherapists. The word is derived from how cows digest their food. Cows chew, swallow, regurgitate, then chew again. This works well for cows but what humans chew over is our distressing thoughts. Ruminating, therefore, means to brood over upsetting thoughts by replaying them in our mind. https://bzfd.it/2SPviK5

AMAZON XNG “Amazing READS”

Two of the three aggregated FLIPS above deal with cancer, something of which I have more than a passing familiarity.

This blogger joined the cancer community when a mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) DX (diagnosis) came in 2006, just prior to a 58th birthday. Now at age 70, I have been in full remission since late 2009.  That status was only achieved after some 16 months or various rounds of chemotherapy followed by an allogeneic stem cell transplant on August 22, 2007, from an unrelated German donor.

After a brief relapse in the fall of 2009, I was successfully treated with Tomotherapy (targeted radiation), while remaining in full remission since that time.

The cancer journey has brought me in touch with a host of other survivors, one of whom is Max Wood, a frequent contributor on this message board, who once offered the following data:

“In the U.S. I think we all know that MCL represents about five percent (5%) of all Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas (NHL).  That equates to roughly 5,000 to 6,000 cases a year.  There are roughly 75,000 cases of NHL a year.  I recently read that NHL is also rare in that it occurs in about four percent (4%) of all cancer patients.  According to the American Cancer Society, there are about 1,700,000 cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Four percent of that would equate to 680,000 annual cases.

“So, MCL is far less than .5% of all cancers.  That’s a small number — unless it is one of us :-).

“That’s one of the best reasons I can think of that we should always seek out a specialist at a top MCL center if we end up as one of the .5%.”
