As of January 2009, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that it had more than 580 miles (930 km) of barriers in place. The total length of the continental border is 1,989 miles (3,201 km). We The People Will Fund The Wall
FLIP② ▶We The People are taking this GoFundMe very seriously! Since our lawmakers will never come to an agreement on border wall funding, Americans are doing it themselves. The “We The People Will Fund The Wall” campaign started… According to this SOURCE, the Mexico–United States barrier (Spanish: barrera México–Estados Unidos) is a series of walls and fences along the Mexico–United States border aimed at preventing illegal crossings from Mexico into the United States. The barrier is not one contiguous structure, but a grouping of relatively short physical walls, secured in between with a “virtual fence” which includes a system of sensors and cameras monitored by the United States Border Patrol.

FLIP③ ▶Since the launch of this campaign on Dec. 16 the voluntary efforts to raise money for President Donald Trump’s wall along the U.S.-Mexico border exceeds $16 million… The 1,954-mile (3,145 km) border between the United States and Mexico traverses a variety of terrains, including urban areas and deserts. The barrier is located on both urban and uninhabited sections of the border, areas where the most concentrated numbers of illegal crossings and drug trafficking have been observed in the past. These urban areas include San Diego, California and El Paso, Texas. As of August 29, 2008, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had built 190 miles (310 km) of pedestrian border fence and 154.3 miles (248.3 km) of vehicle border fence, for a total of 344.3 miles (554.1 km) of fence. The completed fence is mainly in New Mexico, Arizona, and California, with construction underway in Texas. @ALTALOMAN

Wall issues

From one of America’s most prominent philanthropists, an eye-opening, myth-busting new perspective on the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Howard G. Buffett has seen first-hand the devastating impact of cheap Mexican heroin and other opiate cocktails across America. Fueled by failing border policies and lawlessness in Mexico and Central America, drugs are pouring over the nation’s southern border in record quantities, turning Americans into addicts and migrants into drug mules–and killing us in record numbers.

Politicians talk about a border crisis and an opioid crisis as separate issues. To Buffett, a landowner on the U.S. border with Mexico and now a sheriff in Illinois, these are intimately connected. Ineffective border policies not only put residents in border states like Texas and Arizona in harm’s way, they put American lives in states like Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Vermont at risk.

Mexican cartels have grown astonishingly powerful by exploiting both the gaps in our border security strategy and the desperation of migrants–all while profiting enormously off America’s growing addiction to drugs. The solution isn’t a wall. In this groundbreaking book, Buffett outlines a realistic, effective, and bi-partisan approach to fighting cartels, strengthening our national security, and tackling the roots of the chaos below the border. ▶ AMAZON XNG … Just Amazing!

We The People Will Fund the Wall (gofundme)

Could this happen?  Private philanthropy via an internet-waged campaign to help build the Southern Border Wall with a goal of $1billion and $14.5 given by some 238,000 donors as of 21Dec18.  But a major roadblock to success may happen when Democrats take control of Congress in January.

My 40-some-year experience in nonprofit hospital development (fund-raising and philanthropy) taught me numerous times that charity imparted through government largess is a dicey matter, not always what seems,  nor giving granted without certain control.

Time will tell if this effort to raise private funds for the Southern Border Wall will be successful.  Most likely, a portion of the $5 billion will be raised this way.  But then again, a public-private partnership in this endeavor just may be the ticket to bring the project to fruition.

Incredible is the snapshot GIF (inset above) that affirms the GoFundMe drive to help pay for the Southern Border Wall, but also a competing effort by others to raise funds to buy ladders to scale the wall. As our 4-year old granddaughter might say, “AMAZING!”
