Melancholy of my own, compounded of many samples extracted from many objects the sundry contemplation of my travels rumination wraps me in humorous sadness ~ William Shakespeare (paraphrased)

Mackenzie Bezos (Mac) is the published author in the family, not Jeff. And now that she and Jeff have split, some followers may wonder if she will one day write an autobiography or a memoir about her life the last 25 years. Within the few weeks following the early January 2019 announcement of their pending divorce, Mac remains silent about her writing plans so her family and friends may not know a thing about her feelings without checking her social media entries. But it is still uncertain that her own feelings, opinions are on her TWITTER FEED, an unverified account.

One of the few places where you find real opinions for Mackenzie Tuttle Bezos is an online book review about The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon. Mac writes regarding the couple’s early life

“Jeff’s decision to leave his job and build an Internet bookstore at the time, he was thinking about what to do next; he had recently read the novel, “Remains of the Day,” by Kazuo Ishiguro, about a butler who wistfully recalls his personal and professional choices during a career in service in wartime Great Britain.”

Mackenzie then followed with numerous arguments in critique of the Brad Stone work. Here are six of her opinions summarized:

“Jeff’s decision to leave his job and build an Internet bookstore at the time, he was thinking about what to do next; he had recently read the novel, “Remains of the Day,” by Kazuo Ishiguro, about a butler who wistfully recalls his personal and professional choices during a career in service in wartime Great Britain.”

Two of the three aggregated FLIPS above deal with cancer, something of which I have more than a passing familiarity.

This blogger joined the cancer community when a mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) DX (diagnosis) came in 2006, just prior to a 58th birthday. Now at age 70, I have been in full remission since late 2009.  That status was only achieved after some 16 months or various rounds of chemotherapy followed by an allogeneic stem cell transplant on August 22, 2007, from an unrelated German donor.

After a brief relapse in the fall of 2009, I was successfully treated with Tomotherapy (targeted radiation), while remaining in full remission since that time.

The cancer journey has brought me in touch with a host of other survivors, one of whom is Max Wood, a frequent contributor on this message board, who once offered the following data:

“In the U.S. I think we all know that MCL represents about five percent (5%) of all Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas (NHL).  That equates to roughly 5,000 to 6,000 cases a year.  There are roughly 75,000 cases of NHL a year.  I recently read that NHL is also rare in that it occurs in about four percent (4%) of all cancer patients.  According to the American Cancer Society, there are about 1,700,000 cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Four percent of that would equate to 680,000 annual cases.

“So, MCL is far less than .5% of all cancers.  That’s a small number — unless it is one of us :-).

“That’s one of the best reasons I can think of that we should always seek out a specialist at a top MCL center if we end up as one of the .5%.”

transparency (trăns-pârˈən-sē, -părˈ-)►

January 3 marks the seating of new and old members for the 116th Congress of the United States. Much of the rhetoric embedded in speeches and press reports will keynote the word, transparency.

The One Hundred Sixteenth United States Congress is the current meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. Washington, DC, is the meeting location, as we all know.

  • n.A transparent object, especially a photographic slide that is viewed by light shining through it from behind or by projection.
  • n.The quality or state of being transparent.
